So, made it to work. Brain not here, though; still mulling over Empire.
Empires are unstable; they cannot not die. But that applies to us, too. A free society is based on more tree-like life, and doesn't have to die. Is this a good thing, or must social life imitate individual life at a higher level?
And will it do a better job of handling dying than we do at an individual level?
